're going to play in 33 days if this man is allowed to continue. joining me now, bob shrum, democratic strategist, senior adviser to the kerry and gore campaigns who also ran ted kennedy's campaign against romney in 1994. he's writing in the daily beast oig today saying romney won the debate, but it was no game changer. and jared bernstein, msnbc contributor and former chief economist for vice president joe biden. bb, let me start with you. what are your thoughts? >> first of all, romney won a victory that was a victory of performance art built on a whole set of lies. i think people have counted up to 28 to 30 lies. and i actually think the president deserves some credit for at a couple of critical points holding romney accountable. it's a big victory to get romney to own voucher care as a replacement for medicare and the president also took romney on when he said no one over 65 will be affected because of the rebeautiful obamacare in fact as the president pointed out, seniorses will pay $600 more for prescription drugs and the medicare trust if you said will expire eight years sooner.

? who would have thought? i did. we did, bob. we did. got it. >>> all right. so there were new jobs numbers yesterday as happens in the first friday in every month. the previous month's job numbers are reported by the bureau of labor statistics, and some interesting things happened. so the jobs report, it's not that good of a jobs report at all. 114,000 -- not at all. it was not some amazing jobs report. 114,000 new jobs. the big headline number was that unemployment, which is drawn off -- there's two different data sets that they are using, drawn off the household survey. that's the bureau of labor statistics goes out and does a survey of individuals and says, are you working? have you found work? were you not working before? they compute a percentage. the unemployment rate has gone down below 8% which is in some ways a manageable number because mitt romney has been saying on the stump that the president said it was going below 8% and it hasn't so he has to take that out of his stump. in response to this, conservatives, not just fringe figures in the communist red state starting sp

here today but he's in florida campaigning for me, so thank you to bob mcdonnell for the work he's doing, a great governor. you may know that a couple of nights ago, we had a debate. you may have got the chance to see that. and it was a good experience, i think for, for me, for the president, the people that watched, a debate of substance. we talked about the issues that america faces. i got the chance to ask the president some questions that i think people across the country have wanted to ask the president, such as why it was that when america was needing jobs so badly, he was pushing for obama care instead of working to get jobs to the american people. got the chance to ask him why there's still 23 million americans out of work or stopped looking for work struggling to find good full-time jobs. i got the chance to ask him why it is the middle class is so buried in this country, incomes have gone down, prices of gasoline have doubled. prices of food and clothinging and everything else you buy has gone up. people in the middle class have been squeezed, buried as the vice preside
